Sailing Savvy

Rates, FAQ, What to Know

  • Hannah carries no more than six (6) passengers per trip, including children of any age. These are the US Coast Guard’s rules, and we follow them — always. Please don’t ask for exceptions.

All of our trips are private charters. When you charter with us, your group has exclusive use of Hannah for the duration of your sail.

  • All Cape Sailing Charters trips are private — exclusive to you and your group. For all the details on rates and cancellation policy, visit our RATES PAGE.

  • Yes, there’s a head (bathroom) aboard Hannah. It’s a state-of-the-art composting toilet, USCG-approved, that is easy to use after a quick tutorial. That said, please use the facilities prior to departure (thank you). There are public toilet facilities at the town harbormaster office beside the pick-up dock.

  • Children ages 12 and under must wear a lifejacket (PFD) at all times; it’s a federal law. PFDs are provided for all passengers, regardless of age, who wish to wear them (you are also welcome to bring your own). When you make your reservation, please let us know the general height and weight of children so we’re sure to have properly-sized lifejackets on board for your trip.

  • Definitely bring:

    Water

Extra clothing layers (even on the warmest, sunniest days), including a windbreaker/rain jacket

    Hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses

Comfortable non-marking footwear (or bare feet!)

Your smiles — it’s time to relax!

    You might also bring:

Cash/credit card for gratuity (thank you!) and merchandise purchases.

Snacks/takeout meals (being on the water tends to make you hungry!) See our suggestions for local takeout.

    Binoculars

    Camera/phone/tunes

  • Cigarettes/cigars: No smoking allowed. No exceptions.

Glass: including bottles, jars, cups, etc.

Spray/aerosol sunscreen (it makes the boat deck very slippery)

Black-soled or other shoes that leave scuff marks

Styrofoam and/or large coolers over 24”/65 quarts

Illegal drugs (note that marijuana is still ILLEGAL aboard federally-regulated charter boats)

Excessive/unnecessary bags, clothing, etc. It’ll get us sailing more quickly and reduce the chances of something falling overboard.

Your worries — it’s time to relax!

  • We very rarely have folks feel poorly aboard Hannah, but if anyone in your group is prone to motion sickness, let the captain know before your charter and he can plan to adapt your trip if needed. We want everyone to enjoy their time on the water!

Arriving and staying adequately hydrated is important; alcohol exacerbates seasickness symptoms.

If you’re prone to motion sickness, take your medication as directed and/or bring your ginger chews (ginger can help settle upset stomach). Note that there are no refunds for seasickness, but we can certainly return early and/or take a mooring in calm waters. When conditions warrant, and at the sole discretion of the captain, we cancel/reschedule trips for more comfortable sailing conditions.
